Despite the weather on the morning of the 28th October, which brought storms the South of England and torrential rain to the North (and which prevented Rescare’s chair, Anita, from attending!) our AGM nevertheless went ahead successfully in Stockport Town Hall.
A fuller report of the meeting will be posted here soon: to comprise the lively discussions on how we should present the case for the continued viability of residential provision, and on the ‘inadequacies’ of the Mental Capacity Act (MCA) as it has been implemented to-date, especially in regard to the appointment and supervision of deputies. Our particular thanks to Tasoula Crosby of Gorvins Solicitors for giving a talk (see photo), updating us on the MCA, The Court of Protection, and the Office of the Public Guardian.

This correspondent was glad to meet several old friends at the meeting; amongst newcomers were Steve Nichols, newly appointed Chief Executive Officer, and Helen Broadhead, from the Rossendale Trust. Rescare has always taken an interest in the Rossendale Trust, which is based just over the border (the Cheshire/Derbyshire border!) in Macclesfield.
Steve and Helen brought us up to date with news of their new supported-living housing developments – Riverside, Rose Gardens, and Canalside View (photo, left), and with news of the success of their Oakwood centre.

A highlight of the AGM was the presentation of a special present/award to Emma (daughter of Eileen, a Rescare member in Stockport), who, having been the victim of persistent ‘hate crime’, had shown great courage in helping her mother bring her case to the attention of Greater Manchester Police and of the local media (BBC Radio and Television)
