18th June 2012: A moving and illuminating obituary, written by Allan Potter, has appeared in the Guardian. It begins…”The life of my friend and neighbour Peter Bergel, who has died aged 83, had something miraculous about it. He might have perished along with so many of his peers with a learning disability in the euthanasia programme of Nazi Germany. His mother saved him from this fate, and he became the first child taken into the care of the Camphill movement, which since 1939 has established and maintained communities, schools and villages together with people with a learning disability.”

For information: The euthanasia programme carried out against adults and children with learning disabilities in Nazi Germany was known as Aktion T4 (T4 because the programme was administered from a villa at Tiergartenstrasse 4 in Berlin). A memorial to the victims is now located on the site.
