The Government is currently undertaking a consultation on the future of the Blue Badge scheme in England (and separate consultations are anticipated in Wales and Scotland).
The National Autistic Society (NAS) is concerned that the Government will prioritise people with a physical disability for a Blue Badge.
“The Government must understand a Blue Badge can make the difference as to whether a person with autism and their family can go out or not. Tell the Government they should not only prioritise the Blue Badge scheme for people with a physical disability. Even though young people and adults with autism may be able to physically walk, a Blue Badge can make the difference as to whether they and their family can go out or not.”
To have your say, go to the NAS’s campaign page and follow the instructions.
Alternatively, see the Department for Transport’s consultation page for background information and documentation, e.g. on how it is proposed to link eligibility for a Blue Badge with the new Personal Independence Payment (PIP), and respond to the DfT directly by email or post.
The consultation closes on 2nd October 2012.
