The Department for  Work and Pensions (DWP) Stakeholder Bulletin – July 2012 has arrived in the Rescare office’s email inbox…

Two items are of potential interest, each inviting responses to  a current consultation.

If you, or the person you care for, has experience of one or more Work Capability Assessments, or of a Right To Control Pilot sheme, you may wish to contribute.

1)  Work Capability Assessment

On 12 July 2012, the Government published a call for evidence as part of Professor Malcolm Harrington’s third independent review of the Work Capability Assessment (WCA).

The call for evidence runs until 7 September 2012. It is one of several methods Professor Harrington is using to gather information to support the review and inform the final recommendations. He is particularly interested in views and evidence about any changes that claimants have experienced since the introduction of the first year’s recommendations.

Professor Harrington will make his final recommendations by the end of 2012.

The WCA call for evidence is on the DWP website.

2) Right to Control pilot

On 28 June 2012, the Government launched a public consultation on the proposed extension of the Right to Control pilot. The consultation runs until 19 September 2012.

The pilot is due to end in December 2012.

It tests a new legal right that gives disabled adults more control over how some of the support that they are eligible for is used. An interim evaluation found that there were many examples of good practice, but more evidence was needed about the pilot’s impact.

Following the consultation period, a decision will be made on what to do. If the decision is to extend Right to Control, it will be put to Parliament for approval in late 2012.

The Right to Control pilot consultation is on the DWP website. Information about Right to Control is on the Office for Disability Issues website.
