Well another day another manifesto launch, again as with the others I read the Conservative Manifesto from cover to cover looking for references to people with a learning disability but again I didn’t find much

There is no specific reference to learning disability at all but there are 2 paragraphs that you may want to consider, as there are only 2 I will quote directly:

“More People In Work” pg 54

“WE have no plans for further radical welfare reform in this parliament and will continue the roll-out of universal credit, to ensure that it always pays to be in work. We will work with those groups who have in the past found it difficult to get employment, by incentivising employers to take them on. So for businesses employing former wards of the care system, someone with a disability, those with chronic mental health problems, those who have committed a crime but have repaid their debt to society, and those who have been unemployed for over a year, we will offer a holiday on their employers National Insurance contributions for a full year.”

“The Disability Gap” pg 57

“We will get 1 million people with disabilities into employment over the next ten years. We will harness the opportunities of flexible working and the digital economy to generate jobs for those whose disabilities make traditional work difficult. We will give employers the advice and support they need to hire and retain disabled people and those with health conditions.”

There are 1.4 million people with a learning disability in this country with an employment rate of just 6%. Please register to vote and don’t allow any of the political parties to ignore you. Registration ends on 22nd May.
