In connection with the upcoming general election, United Response (support and care provider) has made a number of resources available in Easy Read format, for people with learning disabilities. They are available from the United Response website under the theme ‘Every Vote Counts’

In view of the registration deadline, 22nd May, perhaps the first resource to be cited should be the guide Registering to Vote.

United Response has also re-published three updated Easy Read booklets on politics and voting. (There are embedded links on  the Registering to Vote page; or use the links below to access a specific document in PDF format). The three booklets are:

(1) How politics affects your life – this booklet explains how the law works, the basic rights of all people and how these things impact our lives on a daily basis. It aims to encourage discussion around how politics affects specific areas of people’s lives and interests. ( How_politics_affects_your_life.pdf )

(2) How politics works – this booklet explains how the UK is run and looks at the role of different politicians who work at a local, national or European level. It includes updated information on what the UK’s vote to leave the European Union means. ( How_politics_works.pdf )

(3) How to get involved in politics – this booklet outlines the different ways people can get involved in politics, including joining a political party and campaigning. Most crucially, it  outlines the voting process in different elections and explains how to vote. ( How_to_get_involved.pdf)
