The project that was Every Disabled Child Matters (EDCM) is no more. A new coalition of 45 organisations has formed the Disabled Children’s Partnership (DCP); many any other charities and organisations are pledging support. It has been impossible to ignore the flurry of related emails on this topic!

The DCP has kicked off with what it hopes will be a high-profile campaign to raise awareness and empathy amongst the general public; the Secret Life of Us.

At this point the easiest thing is to re-print below the welcoming email from the DCP’s Chair…

Hi …

Sorry it’s been so long!

In the past you’ve heard from our Every Disabled Child Matters project. Now we can announce the successor to that project: the Disabled Children’s Partnership, an exciting new coalition of 45 leading children and disability organisations, working together to make a difference for disabled children and their families.

Our first campaign as the DCP is called The Secret Life of Us. This will bring to life the realities of the challenges disabled children, young people and their families face on a daily basis, in living a life many people take for granted.

Did you know, 43% of the British public say they don’t know anyone who is disabled? It is hardly surprising then that many people are simply unaware of the challenges disabled people face.

The truth is, we need public support, understanding and empathy to affect change and make a lasting difference to the way disabled children, young people and their families are treated in society. In order to achieve the change we need, we will bring the realities of disabled children’s lives closer to people across England.

We will do this by revealing the part of disabled children’s lives that the public do not see – the Secret Life of Us.

Now we are launching our campaign and want to reach as many people as possible to improve understanding and awareness across the country. We can’t do this without you!

Your support is so important in helping us achieve this. Please help us by sharing on Facebook and Twitter, and click here to sign up to the campaign.

Thank you for your support.

Amanda Batten
Chair of the Disabled Children’s Partnership
