The following email notification was sent to Rescare via The Department for Work and Pensions from  the WCA Independent Review Team. The implementation of  the Work Capability Assessment (WCA) has been subject to regular reviews. The 5th such review is now underway, led by Dr Paul Litchfield. (You may find the review process being referred to as “Litchfield”).

This 5th review is of special interest to Rescare because it specifically focuses on ‘mental health and learning difficulties’. Please give evidence, if you have had relevant experience of the WCA in action.

Good afternoon

We’re writing on behalf of Dr Paul Litchfield to announce the launch of a call for evidence for the 5th Independent Review of the Work Capability Assessment (WCA). The call for evidence started today and runs until 15 August 2014. Visit WCA on GOV.UK for more information, including the questions, previous independent reviews and the government responses to previous reviews.

Dr Litchfield is interested in how the Work Capability Assessment is operating and further changes that might improve the process. He is particularly interested in data that supports points raised and any new evidence. The call for evidence focuses on:

We’re primarily using an online survey to gather evidence – visit the questionnaire. You can also email wca.evidence@dwp.gsi.gov.uk or send responses by post.

Call for evidence material will also soon be available through GOV.UK in alternative formats: audio, BSL and Easy Read. Email wca.evidence@dwp.gsi.gov.uk to request large print, audio cassettes, CDs, Easy Read, Braille and BSL DVDs in hard copy.
